Chelsea Flower Show 2022 – Highlights
This year saw the return of the wonderful Chelsea Flower Show in Spring for the first time in three years!
It was a wonderful day out and an opportunity to catch up with all the latest trends in garden design as well as engage with a variety of current issues and topics. We came home with buckets full of inspiration, from seeing the fabulous blooms in the pavilion to exciting new planting combinations in the show gardens. But now lets take a look at my top 5 picks from 2022.
My top 5 picks from Chelsea 2022…
Morris & Co Garden by Ruth Willmott
Morris & Co’s stunningly delicate cottage style planting in their show garden on main avenue. Designer Ruth Willmott has represented William Morris’s love of nature displayed through his many designs with a subtle mix of colour including flowering pinks, apricots and blues in and amongst a natural border scheme.
Giant Apple Mirror Sculpture by James Parker
The curved perfection of the giant apple mirror sculpture by the sculptor James Parker. Embedded in a border of royal purple and red planting it reflects the images of the visitors passing by.
Gladioli display by Pheasant Acre Plants
Like soldiers standing to attention, the glorious display of gladioli in the pavilion stopped you in your tracks. Grown by Pheasant Acre Plants, they ranged from the palest of pinks through to dazzling deep reds and purples and gave a stunning display.
St Mungo’s Putting Down Roots Garden by Darryl Moore and Adolfo Harrison
The inspiring concept behind the St Mungo’s Putting Down Roots show garden. Here the issue of homelessness was bought to our attention, but also the potential power of horticultural therapy and training as a way of rebuilding lives.
Designers Darryl Moore and Adolfo Harrison have created an inspiring urban space through the surprising use of bright oranges and pinks throughout the hard landscaping. From the pergola to the large containers dotted around, these colours are carried through in the diagonal stripes across the fencing and paving. The lush green planting with a few pale flowers compliments these bright colours and help to create a welcoming space.
The Meta Garden: Growing the Future by Joe Perkins
Beautifully minimalist, the Meta Garden created by Joe Perkins reveals a timber honeycomb igloo-like pergola which draws you into the space. Along with the parred back planting with the stream running through, a feeling of escapism is generated and reminds us of our connection to nature and ecosystems.
