Project Details

  • Location: Newbury
  • What we did: Design, Construction, Planting, Lighting
  • Cost: £70-75,000+VAT
  • The brief:
The focus of the design would be to create a contemporary garden that complimented the house, with its main function being a usable family space that would grow and adapt with the family. Flooding was an issue in this garden so extra drainage was required.
  • The design:
The main feature of the design was the large multi-use patio surrounded by split level retaining walls with plentiful planting and built-in seating. Large central steps gave the layout a grand feel in keeping with the house. At the back of the garden a play area for the children that could be adapted as they got older along with two smaller seating areas creating focal points and making the most of the existing mature birch trees. The paving and brick were chosen to compliment the render of the house. Drainage was added to the back and side of the garden as well as extra drains added to the patio to alleviate the waterlogging.
  • The outcome:
The result is a clean modern garden with a large entertaining space for multiple uses. By stepping the retaining walls, we have given the space a much more open feel and the central steps draw the eye through the rest of the garden. The patio and walls are softened by vibrant flowing planting that also extends into the rest of the garden.
