• Cost: Design Plan: £1300-£1400+VAT, Planting Plan: £500-600+VAT, Construction: £40-45,000+VAT, Planting: £1600-£1700+VAT
  
• The brief:
  To create a clean simple seating space, larger than the existing, that gives a calm and relaxing environment for the client to enjoy, making the most of the garden’s aspect.
  
• The design:
  The existing patio was dark and an awkward, unusable size. The design focused on balancing the size of the space and creating a better flow, visually dividing the overall space into sections for different uses. The patio directly outside the patio doors was enlarged to allow more seating space. A composite deck built in bench seat in keeping with the minimalist style, provides extra seating when entertaining. The rendered walls replace the tired looking existing brick walls, and the porcelain paving in ‘Modena Sand’ gives the space a light contemporary feel. Another feature of the design is a new treated softwood pergola over the main seating area; this gives height and a focal point to the design. Planting beds were placed around the edges of the patio and within the patio itself. The planting, once established, will soften the edges of the patio and bring colour, texture and movement to the area.
  
• The outcome:
  The result is our client now has a beautiful contemporary patio with zoned areas for sitting and enjoying the garden from different perspectives. The pergola and built in seat are features that add interest within the space, and the planting scheme is the finishing touch softening the walls and paving as well as changing colour and texture throughout the year.
