A new landscaping design

ALDA in Action

What a transformation and it’s all down to a new landscaping design!….

This was the case at a converted old pump house in Wargrave last month, where the ALDA team transformed the layout of a garden with an impressive hard landscaping project. Impressive in the sense that the area that was landscaped was significantly large, in which several paving seating areas were constructed. Linked by a series of cobbled pathways these patio spaces wrap themselves snugly along the side of the house.

Before

Before we started the landscaping work the outside of the house consisted mainly of an area of tired lawn. There was also a shingle pathway running along the left hand side of the house, in which stepping stones were set.

After

The after photos show the garden transformed into one which can be enjoyed on many levels. With its multitude of patio seating areas, which lead off from a series of French doors dotted along the house, the garden lends itself perfectly as a place to sit and enjoy and entertain friends. It also provides a pleasing outlook to view the rest of the garden from.

It’s in the detail…

Cobbled pathways (our client’s idea) and the installation of two archways and a pergola have the effect of leading the eye through to each new space and helps to link together and define these paving areas.

The soft brown colours of the ‘Harvest’ paving compliments the brickwork of the house, as do the tones in the weathered cobbles in the choice of ‘Meadow’ that make up the pathways.  Some of the photos were taken when the paving was wet after being given a good clean on the last day of the build. When dry the earthy colours in the paving slabs will become paler.

Where the old shingle path used to sit along the side of the house, now sits a beautiful new cobbled path and the old stepping stones have been put to good use as a new pathway along the lawn.

An area of interest has been created in one of the paving areas by installing a circular design.  This feature was constructed using a squaring off kit.  It is a nice touch to finish off with an edging of the weathered cobbles which mirrors the edging of the rest of the paving.

It all goes to show the impact you can make on your garden in a relatively short space of time with an eye catching landscaping design. Here the new paving design not only improves the garden layout but highlights the attractiveness of the pump house. We are still adding the finishing touches to this garden; hopefully more photos to come, including some nice water features and lighting!
