Trend Predictions for 2026
It's the beginning of a new year and looking at 2026, the gardening world is all about purposeful design.
The focus this year seems to be on the creating meaningful, purpose driven, well thought out spaces, with future-focused planting. Design and ecology are no longer separate conversations, creating spaces that adapt to the changing climate and do good and well as look good.
Gardening for Climate Resilience
- With our seasons becoming much more extreme, a defining trend for 2026 is climate smart gardening.
- By choosing plants that thrive even when conditions swing from very wet to extreme heat, improving soil health by mulching and composting, and mixing species with different tolerances, you can give your garden a better chance of success.
- Water-wise design will be important for garden resilience, with rain water harvesting and permeable surfaces being both practical and beautifully incorporated into designs.

Bulbs are Back
- 2026 sees bulbs taking centre stage and being used in more creative ways. Gone are the days of rigid lines and separate pots for spring.
- Bulbs are being woven through borders and amongst perennials. Layering means the growing season begins early and strong.
- Bulbs are low maintenance which means they are perfect for people who have little time, but want lots of colour.
Edible Landscaping
- Alongside a purpose-driven garden comes edible landscaping.
- Fruit trees and sustainable vegetable patches aid towards establishing a resilient garden.
- Whether that be a dedicated space or woven through your planting beds.
- A predicted popular choice this year is tabletop vegetables. With new dwarf varieties of your favourite veg, even the smallest space can be used to grow your own.

Bold Colours
- In previous years, soft neutrals and pastels were the focus for our outdoor spaces.
- This year colour is back! We are seeing the return of bold foliage, rich colour palettes and colourful furniture and decorative features (e.g. pots).
Wellness Spaces
- While the concept of the garden being a sanctuary is not new, the definition is changing and the way we enjoy our gardens is evolving.
- With the increase in the popularity of wellbeing practices at home, requests for hot tubs, saunas, ice baths etc., in gardens is a positive move towards connecting our everyday lives with our outdoor spaces.

Outdoor Rooms
- The garden continues to evolve as an extension of the home, but now with the desire to make use of it all year round.
- Covered pergolas, garden buildings, fire pits and outdoor kitchens have started to become popular.
- Layered lighting is also becoming important to extend the use of the garden into the evening.
Natural Materials and Textures
- As we see a move towards natural, authentic materials in interior design, garden design seems to be following suit.
- Moving away from manufactured finishes, towards natural, beautifully ageing materials, clients are embracing a rustic, more nature driven style rather than glossy and clean.
- Materials such as timber and woven structures, gravels and textured stone details will be seen more often.
