Year in Review: A look back at our 2020 gardens

ALDA in Action

Despite a year full of uncertainties with the challenges of Covid, the team feel lucky to have had the opportunity of creating some beautiful gardens for our clients. Here is a snapshot of some of those projects:

January

The year began with a front garden in Twyford where we laid a beautiful Sandstone feature pathway with clay brick paving inlays transforming the approach to our client’s front door.

February

This was a garden in Binfield full of interesting landscaping features which included:- a series of raised sleeper beds, different surfaces – limestone paving and bond resin – and low retaining brick walls. Katie’s planting design completes the garden with the striking box balls taking centre stage.

March

A contemporary style garden in Wokingham is created through simple and understated design. The modern feel is created by laying large rectangular porcelain slabs across the back of the house for the main patio, laying a new rectangle lawn and shingle pathways.

April

We landscaped an elegant front garden in Woolton Hill which had previously just been laid to lawn. It now has defined areas such as a limestone shingle circle feature perfect for the large Cupressus cloud topiary tree to occupy, shingle pathways taking you around the lawn and a newly reshaped area of shingle for a bench to view the garden looking up to the house.

May

A revamp of a pond in Wargrave is created by installing a new rockery and a shallow pebble beach to encourage wildlife with new specialist planting around the edges.

June

There were plenty of curves to be landscaped in this garden in Thatcham:  a circular shaped lawn is edged with two curved pathways on either side, one of clay brick pavers and the other a contrasting grey limestone shingle, a smooth curved edge to the main patio and a curved brick bench.

July

In a traditional cottage style garden in Baughurst we constructed a new retaining wall using natural Purbeck stone and a series of new steps and patio area using antique yellow limestone slabs.

August / September

Angular lines complement a very modern house in Kingwood. The sharp angles of the raised sleeper beds on the main patio echo those in the property’s roof structure as do the straight angled edges of the porcelain paving stepping down on to the lawn.

October

A garden in Chieveley comes together through the landscaping of many individual features: an enclosed courtyard area of raised sleeper beds with inner brick paver circles, a new pond built into the curve of the existing brick wall and a stunning new limestone patio laid across the back of the house.

November / December

Our current project in Newbury is a terraced garden.  It is taking shape with an impressive brick wall providing privacy from the neighbours and a patio area of contrasting silver porcelain slabs.  Still to do next Spring when the weather is warmer is the rendering and painting of the raised beds and planting as per Katie’s planting plan.
