Contemporary Updates to a Newbury Garden

From tired and worn to fresh and contemporary - this new garden design gives our client's property an instant lift.

Our client’s garden was looking tired and in need of an update. Overgrown shrubs, an old decking platform and the outdated paving were all contributing to the overall lack of design and feeling of cohesion in the garden.

Before and After:

Here are some before and after sliders to show the transformation that’s taken place…

The Finished Design:

New Garden Features:

Large Patio and Steps

  • The most notable change is the large new patio which now runs across the entire back of the property, providing our client with a generous area for sitting and entertaining.
  • Clean lines continue with the installation of two sets of wide paved steps leading from the patio down on to the lawn.
  • Smart zigzag edges on the left of the patio, adjacent to a large planting border, replace what was a straight diagonal line of patio then lawn.

Clean Contemporary Design

  • Modern clean lines have created a garden which appears much larger providing our client with more space and options to enjoy their garden.
  • Another nice design touch is the series of ‘Rochelle’ Limestone stepping stones running down the left boundary to the play house.
  • The plants which will go in the large borders will provide texture, colour and movement and will contrast well against the clean contemporary lines of the hard landscaping.

Modern materials

  • The large ‘Rochelle’ Limestone paving slabs contribute to the contemporary feel. They are 900 x 600 x 20mm in size and were sourced from our supplier, Nigel Belcher.
  • New shingle pathways around the patio add contrast and texture to the landscaping.

We have agreed to return in the spring/summer to see how the garden is taking shape with the addition of the new planting to enhance and and soften the hard landscaping. Once complete we will return with another blog to reveal the changes.
